The Mentorship Program at Sheppard Method Pilates
If you are looking to become certified in Pilates in a one-on-one setting or would like to simply enhance your knowledge of the practice, our Westwood Pilates Mentorship Program is for you! Designed as a one-on-one certification program rather than in a group setting, this program is perfect for certified instructors who wish to do a second certification, are interested in enhancing their knowledge, or simply want one-on-one training throughout the entire Pilates certification process.
Who Teaches the Sheppard Method Mentorship Program?
Risa Sheppard, owner of Sheppard Method Pilates who is backed by more than four decades of experience and trained directly under Ron Fletcher, a direct descendant of Joseph Pilates, leads the Mentorship Program alongside Janine Venable. Janine, also part of our senior staff, leads the study of anatomy throughout this program.
Through The Mentorship Program, you’ll receive private, one-on-one, personalized attention from both Risa and Janine, giving you more time and space to explore and develop your own practice while learning from advanced senior Pilates instructors.
How Long Does the Mentorship Program Last?
Since our one-on-one Pilates certification program in Westwood takes place in a private setting as opposed to a group class which meets 2 to 3 times a year on one day a week, The Mentorship Program lasts as long as the client requires to finish his or her program.
We adhere to the Pilates Method Alliance of completing 450 hours, 50 of those hours with one-on-one instruction. We do require that all hours are made up within one year of the lab work completion. Essentially, it takes about 7 to 12 months to complete.
*Time of completion may be shorter with one-on-one training session.
*Typically, we meet for 1-2 hours, twice a week. However, we remain flexible with each mentors’ specific needs.
The Benefits of a One-on-One Setting
In a one-on-one setting, our senior Pilates instructors can better adapt the teaching to your individual aspirations. In the Sheppard Method Pilates Mentorship Program, it is common that our team will use another teacher or teacher-trainer to assist with the instructions, giving you the attention and guidance needed to feel confident in your own future instruction!
Why a Pilates Mentorship Program at All? (Answered by Risa Sheppard)
While discussing the difference between the way I was taught by Ron Fletcher, my friend and college from those days lamented: “The difference between how we learned from Ron was that we simply “absorbed” the work. We simply followed him, took classes from him, and emulated his teaching which I still use to this day.
