If you are just starting Pilates classes, it is likely because you are in search of some form of the balanced body. Pilates for beginners provides the path for improved fitness, enhanced health, increased mindfulness, and overall enriched wellness.
At Sheppard Method Pilates, all of our classes are small to offer personalized instruction and attention. Because our instructors are able to give clients individual modifications to fit their needs, we pride ourselves that every class is suitable for beginners! For more experienced clients, our instructors are trained to modify each exercise to provide additional and appropriate challenges to your workout.

Speaking of goals, have you given thought to your specific ambitions? We encourage all beginner Pilates students to take the time to determine what they’d like to get out of the practice. Defining an overarching goal helps break down your path to getting there. Expectations of Beginner Pilates Classes
Beginners Pilates classes and programs are a welcoming, supportive environment at our West Los Angeles Pilates studio. Our approach embraces classical Pilates training and body control to encourage participants to understand better and accept their own unique way of being.
As you prepare for a beginners Pilates class, you can expect the Sheppard Method Pilates studio to have any mats and equipment you might need, but feel free to bring your own if you’d prefer.
We require socks. We offer socks with sticky bottoms which helps provide traction and greater safety. We do not require you to wear our specific socks, you may bring your own from home, but socks must be worn in the studio. Plan on wearing clothing that fits tight or snug, but allows you to move. Form fitting clothing helps your instructor guide and instruct you for proper positioning and, therefore, maximum effect.
Plan on tying up long hair and remove any loose accessories or jewelry.
Feel free to bring water to stay hydrated and refreshed! (we also have a h2o fountain).
Plan on arriving early. Arriving late should be avoided so as not to disturb a class that may already be underway. Staying focused, for you and other participants, is an important part of the Pilates experience.
