Deciding to enroll in a Pilates Certification Program is a big decision. It’s important you ask the right questions in order to find the best possible program that fits your needs. Here are some common questions we encounter from prospective students.
1. How do I know if a program is reputable?
With so many styles of Pilates, and various Pilates training programs on the market it can be hard to know what's good and what isn’t. That is why the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) was formed in 2001 to help establish best practices and fundamental principles of teaching Pilates as a profession. We are proud to be listed on the PMA’S registry of schools since the beginning. Additionally, we adhere to all the standards and requirements and participate in yearly conferences with leading professionals to address the needs of our collective students and the industry at large.
2. Do I need to have previous experience in Pilates?
The Sheppard Method Pilates teacher training program is comprehensive and available for all levels of experience. Though it is helpful to have experience in yoga, dance, and other movement practices, many of our students start new to Pilates completely. In fact, many of our students don't intend to teach at all. Many choose our program simply to broaden their personal knowledge of the work or to learn how to use the equipment for their personal at-home use.
3. Is there a payment policy?
4. What is the PMA?
Founded in 2001, the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is the professional association for Pilates teachers. Since its inception, Pilates teachers from around the world have worked together to create a unified community, to share knowledge and information, and most importantly, to establish the practice of teaching Pilates as a profession. The mission is to advance Pilates as a profession and to promote and perpetuate the teachings of Joseph H. and Clara Pilates. By joining the association, you become part of a growing community of teachers that are committed to the development of the Pilates field. Membership is for those who have a far-reaching vision of what is possible when professionals actively work together to shape the future of their industry. Join the PMA and take your place in a global community of Pilates practitioners, teachers, and students who share your passion for Pilates.
5. How long does it take to complete the program?
Students are responsible for completing a total of 450 hours as directed by the National certifying body called the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). The first eighty hours are in-class instruction hours and will naturally be completed by the end of the 16 week course. The trainee will complete the additional 370 hours over the course of 12 months. Though most people complete required hours within 6-8 months.
6. How long will it take to obtain employment?
Our trainers typically take 6-8 months to complete the required certification hours. Those who actively sought employment found work within 1-3 months. The Sheppard Method Pilates teacher training program has been around for over two decades with existing methods and partnerships that are in place to help you achieve employment quickly.
7. How much does Pilates certification cost?
